Despite the success of veterinary and pharmaceutical sciences, bacterial gastroenteritis is still a serious problem requiring urgent solutions. Analysis of data from farms shows that the leading role in infectious pathologies of the digestive system is played by such microorganisms as Streptococcus spp, pathogenic strains of escherichia coli, Salmonella spp, Proteus spp, Klebsiella spp, Enterococcus spp, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and some mycoplasma species.
A big problem is the drug resistance of these pathogens, including to several antibacterial agents at a time. In such cases, the only way out is a rational choice of reliable and safe antibacterial agents, primarily antibiotics. One of the most effective antibiotics for fighting bacterial gastroenteritis is Dorynum, manufactured by "Farvet” company.
It is a known fact that the development of microflora resistance is associated with biochemical mechanisms that vary for different groups of antibiotics. These data, obtained in vitra, are confirmed by chemical studies and practical experience in the use of Dorynum.
Thus, studies of fifteen antibacterial drugs with respect to 195 E-coli strains isolated from young farm animals demonstrated the high efficiency of Dorynum and almost complete absence of strains of escherichia coli resistant to it. Figure 1 shows the results of a study on antimicrobial activity of some antibiotics.
As can be seen from the diagram, the study did not reveal enteropathogenic strains of E. coli resistant to Dorynum. This indicates a minimal risk of developing resistance to it, which is confirmed by studies of the development of microorganism's resistance to antibiotics. For this reason, Dorynum was chosen as a means of combating pig gastroenteritis in farm of OJSC “8 Marta”; at the same time, Dorynum was compared with traditionally used treatment regimens. The groups were formed by the method of pair-analogues taking into account the age of the animals: in the first experimental group there were piglets up to 42 days of age, in the second experimental group there were piglets up to 110 days of age. The control group consisted of animals of all these ages.
Animals of the first experimental group received Dorynum at a dose of 7 mg/kg for 5 consecutive days, animals of the second experimental group received Dorynum intramuscularly at a dose of 10 mg/kg of live weight. Once a day for 5 consecutive days. Control animals were treated for 5 days with gentamicin and ronidazole at doses corresponding to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Gastroenteritis of young pigs in OJSC "8 Marta" progressed with symptoms of diarrhea, cyanosis of the skin and mucous membranes; the autopsy revealed dot and focal hemorrhages on the intestinal mucosa, swelling of the mucous membranes and hyperplasia of the spleen. Comprehensive diagnostics with consideration of the autopsy data, confirmed the bacterial nature of gastroenteritis, and the laboratory reports revealed high sensitivity of the isolated microflora complex to Dorynum.
Control over the survival of the livestock and the general condition of animals was maintained during the entire period of the experiment.
Thus, injectable form of Dorynum demonstrated a higher efficacy against young pigs’ gastrointestinal tract bacterial infections in comparison with the drugs traditionally used for this pathology. At the same time, no allergic reactions or any side effects were observed in the experimental groups. When using the injectable form of Dorynum, the antibiotic is rapidly and completely absorbed from the injection site, reaching a peak concentration in the body in just 1-2 hours. At the same time, Dorynum practically does not bind to plasma proteins and is eliminated unchanged, which proves the safety of its administration even in pathology of other organs and systems.
Thus, unlike traditionally used drugs, Dorynum demonstrated extremely high efficiency along with a low cost of the course dose. The inclusion of Dorynum into treatment and prophylactic treatment regimens will solve the problem of bacterial gastroenteritis in pigs with the minimal risk of development of pathogenic microorganisms’ resistant strains and the absence of side effects.
Dorynum is a complex of resonant antibiotics with a wide spectrum of activity, low toxicity, prolonged effect and high penetrating capability.
Such versatility ensures the effectiveness of Dorynum in any infectious diseases, including those caused by resistant strains.
